The main ingredient of xylitol

Supplier of D-xylose (wood sugar)

D-xylose is a sugar monomer that is essential for a variety of biochemical processes. As the main ingredient of the sugar alcohol xylitol, it is used in a variety of food products as a sweetener and preservative. Compared to other sugar alcohols, D-xylose has a lower sweetening power and quickly turns brown when heated.

D-xylose (wood sugar) is used in the processing industry as a sugar substitute, preservative, pet food and drops for confectionery, drinks, food and animal feed as well as cosmetics and technical applications, such as

  • sugar-free/energy-reduced confectionery and bakery products
  • sugar-free/energy-reduced drinks and desserts
  • sugar-free/energy-reduced seafood
  • sugar-free/energy-reduced pet food
  • sugar-free moisturising for cosmetics and
  • sugar-free dental care products, such as toothpaste and mouthwashes.

In addition to being used as a food additive, D-xylose is also essential for the diagnosis of malabsorption syndromes. In particular, a test known as the D-xylose absorption test is used to assess the intestinal absorption of monosaccharides, which may be disturbed in a variety of conditions that cause malabsorption. In addition, D-xylose has no effect on blood sugar levels as it is not absorbed by the body.

ACT is your reliable trading partner and distributor of high-quality D-xylose, also known as wood sugar. The sweetener is especially suitable for the processing and production of end products in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries as well as for technical applications.
